Balloon Plant – Ghompocarpus

This Ghomphocarpus shrub was growing at Cedros Gardens in Solana Beach.  They called it a ball plant, but when I looked it up, it was called a balloon plant.  The spiky green pods are about the size of a lemon or lime and are filled with seeds.  This plant is from Africa, is related to the milkweed family and Monarch butterflies love to feed off of it.  Nature is truly amazing !
