MATING DANCE & NESTING OF DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS – SAN DIEGO

DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS mating dance to attract a mate consists of bowing their heads down, lifting their wings out & then stretching their necks up to expose their turquoise throats.   Between their iridescent body feathers glinting in the sun and the flash of a turquoise throat the display is stunning.  Nest building is on the very edge of bluffs.  It seems a miracle that the chicks would not fall out and would survive.  One clever bird built her nest inside a kind of cave way up high.  Quite a cozy place to raise a family.  & today there are 2 baby cormorants with fluffy baby feathers, which they groom just like mom.  Life goes on.  Sometimes brilliantly & with great & glorious beauty.
