LIFE OF AN ARTIST BY THE SEA – 2014 ART JOURNAL – WHALE WATCHING TRIP, TROPICAL RAIN, & AN ELEPHANT SEAL!

August 2014 Art Journal - Page 99 WATERMARK

2014 ART JOURNAL – WATERCOLOR – FIRST WEEK OF AUGUST – Wore my lucky Tibet necklace to the Athenaeum art opening.  This necklace is a great conversation starter, which is good for me because sometimes I can be shy in a crowd.  Made Bird Song in My Heart collage cards.  Went on a whale watching trip & saw the migrating blue whales, sea lions sitting on a buoy, a Mola Mola fish jumping out of the water.  The pelicans were all lined up on the bait deck waiting for a handout.  San Diego had tropical rain storms & it was hot & humid.  Watched a pelican fishing in La Jolla & got to see another lovely Elephant Seal who was visiting.  Lovely life of mine as an artist by-the-sea!

A BIG THANK YOU FOR 12,000 VIEWS!

12,000 VIEWS – Thanks to everyone who takes time out of our busy lives to view my blog.  So happy to be able to share my life as an artist by-the-sea!

Abalone sea shells are one of my very favorite shells.  I wish they weren’t endangered now.

SAN DIEGO SEA SHELLS DRYING ON A PRETTY TRAY

Sea shells on tray 9-2014 WATERMARK

SEA SHELLS collected  on a few San Diego beaches washed & set out to dry on a tray.  I like how the metal tray really frames the shells.  This was a great collecting day.   The find of the day for me was the almost 4 inch long white cone shell.  I’ve never found one of those before!

2nd row down from the top- right side – A fossil clam shell.

2nd row up from the bottom – A collection of Sunset clam shells & “butterfly” Chiton shells.

After I wash all the shells, it’s time to put aside my favorites to sketch & watercolor in my art journals.  Such lovely inspiration for an artist by-the-sea.
