PROTECTION FOR HARBOR SEALS DURING THE PUPPING SEASON – LA JOLLA, CALIFORNIA

December 2014 Art Journal - Page 146 WATERMARKCASA BEACH CLOSED FOR THE HARBOR SEAL PUPPING SEASON from December 15 to May 15 for the next 5 years!  A wonderful day of celebration for all of us.  The pelicans & other birds were feeding offshore, there were lots of harbor seals on the beach, & one juvenile seal played happily with a piece of seaweed in the water.  Even Lola Lollypop showed up to join the celebration.  She is hugely pregnant & we only see her during the pupping season.  A wonderful day of rejoicing.

YELLOW ROSES WITH BLUE & WHITE

Japanese brush painting on shikishi boards.  The rose in the coffee cup is 4 inches x 3 inches, the bouquet of roses is 8 inches x 10 inches. I gave 2 small wooden stands with these paintings & they were a gift for a dear friend.

WALKING BY THE SEA – PAUSING TO BREATHE IN THE BEAUTY

November 2014 Art Journal - Page 138 WATERMARK

WALKING ALONG THE SEA IN LA JOLLA ON A LOVELY DECEMBER DAY.  I pause often.  Time is not important.  I am in the moment of the beauty of this life.  The harbor seals wave to me as the tide moves in, Heerman’s Gulls glide by Brown Pelicans, a flock of Cormorants swims out to sea on the waves, a rainbow appears in the sea spray on the bluffs & sunset is breathtaking.  Some days I just never want to go home from the beach.
