A seashell heart with love from the sea.
AMBER LIGHT from a sunset seems so healing & hopeful to my soul. I can almost feel the joy of all the plants & animals at the soft rain at night. Such delight in seeing & feeling rain after a decade of drought. Sumi Cat & Beastie Kitty have to eat before the early sunset these days because if I don’t take the food in the opossum is right there for a cat chow meal.
The holiday season is coming & Trader Joe’s has Pfeffernusse Spice cookies now, a seasonal treat, which is one of my favorites. I have begun creating holiday cards to send to a few special friends using original miniature paintings of pine & poinsettias embellished with lovely German Dresden trees & bells,
Inspiration drives my days to just paint & paint. Currently I’m obsessed with painting tiny 4 inch by 4 inch rice paper paintings of the Three Friends of Winter, a traditional Japanese brush painting subject about “weathering hard times” with perseverance, resilience & hope. Piles of mini paintings of pine in snow, bamboo & plum blossom in shades of blacks & gray sumi ink fill my worktable. Painting is such joy & being in the flow means sometimes I just don’t want to do anything else. I’m even painting designs on Magnolia leaves! These painted beauties will be put into vellum envelope pages in a small accordion book I made. I just can’t stop myself from painting right now!
Still chores must be done, meals have to be prepared and life goes on. An incentive to go to the laundromat for me is a quick stop at the thrift store while the clothes are washing & I find a beautiful 100% linen embroidered peasant blouse at the thrift shop for $3.99! Why buy new when we can recycle what we have already made on this planet? Getting all my chores done means that I can return to painting guilt-free. Off I go!
