TINY FANTASY FAIRY-LIKE BIRD – JAPANESE BRUSH PAINTING

Fantasy bird - shikishi board 9-2014 WATERMARK

FANTASY BIRD – JAPANESE BRUSH PAINTING ON SHIKISHI BOARD – 4 1/2 ” x 5 “

Love painting these little fairy-like birds from my imagination.  I think of the color wheel a bit when I’m choosing the colors of their plumage.  So much fun to be an artist by-the-sea!

SEA SHELL HUNTING

Shells Tide Haiku 11-2013 WATERMARKSEA SHELL HUNTING – Once in a while I end up bringing home a sea shell only to find out it is still alive!  Barnacles stick up little feather tentacles, tiny crabs scurry out from under a shell and sea slugs are glued shut tight in snail shells.  I always take the time, no matter how tired I am, to return these creatures to the sea.  Recently I have become aware that hermit crabs depend on the empty snail shells to live in and to move up into as the hermit crabs get bigger.  Sea shells also break down to become sand.  A few months ago I took most of the shells and put them back into the ocean.  It was nice to enjoy them and it was nice to return them to where they belong.
