Sea Lion Pups in La Jolla, California

There are now 12 sea lion pups in La Jolla, California.  These pups are only a few weeks old!  Sea lion mothers nurse their pups for one year.  Mother’s must leave their pups alone for periods of time to go out to catch fish so they can produce breast milk to feed their pup.  These marine mammals are federally protected.  Remember to stay back 50 feet to respectfully observe them.  These are wild marine mammals and no matter how cute they look, they can bite!

HARBOR SEAL SHOWING OFF WHISKERS & TONGUE

It’s not just the harbor seal pups that steal our hearts.  Adult harbor seal’s antics capture our hearts, too.  This black harbor seal has the most gorgeous set of whiskers, yawns wide & sticks her tongue out at us!  She practically flutters her eyelashes to show us how adorable she is!

COAST WALK TRAIL & WILD MUSTARD EXPLOSION – LA JOLLA

HISTORIC COAST WALK TRAIL IN LA JOLLA – Winter rains & the end of a 9 year drought has brought an explosion of Wild Mustard blooming everywhere.  Walking down Coast Walk Trail and viewing the sea through a yellow haze of tiny mustard flowers is a wonderland too magical to miss.  As soon as the hot summer sun starts baking the bluffs, the mustard will fade, but I will always carry the beauty of this time in my heart.
