PURPLE ORCHID TREE – December in San Diego brings streets are lined with blooming Purple Orchid Trees (bauhinia purpurea), which originated in Asia, South China & Japan. These trees are drought tolerant. The purple orchid flowers are gorgeous & the leaves are shaped like butterflies! If you look at a branch of this tree, the leaves really do look like butterflies!
“AUTUMN BLESSINGS ON THE WIND” – Nature sighs as summer ends & winter is on it’s way. Gusts of wind shake loose all the colorful leaves from surrounding trees to reveal their handsome winter silhouettes. Stark winter beauty is on the way.
“Autumn Blessings” – small watercolor.
SAN DIEGO NATIVE WILD FLOWERS – A series of watercolor botanical & landscape illustrations of the wild flowers that bloomed all over the coast after a wonderful winter rainy season that ended a 10-year drought. I spent a few weeks driving up and down the coast photographing all the wild flowers blooming. My latest addition is the blooming Prickly Pear Cactus, but it all started with the clouds of Wild Mustard flowers taking over the bluffs & lagoons. I carry this beauty in my heart.
