DELPHINIUM FLOWERS IN VASE WITH CHINA DEER – WATERCOLOR

Delphinium in Blue & White 7-2014 WATERMARK 2

NATURE & BOTANICAL ART JOURNAL 2014 – Out of all of the delphinium paintings I did recently, this one was my very favorite!  I love this little china deer and this is the first time I’ve done a painting of it.  Such a joy to paint what I love.

Delphinium Flower Sketches 7-2014 WATERMARK

Delphiniums are such a lovely summer flower in the garden.  The cut flowers don’t last very long in a vase & give just a few days of enjoyment, but still the indigo-blue violet flowers are one of my favorites.  I think part of my enjoyment of these cut flowers is because I know I have to pay attention to them before the petals drop!  Here’s a few photos of them at one of my favorite nurseries, too.  I think this flower already looks like a watercolor painting growing in the garden & it’s an example in nature of a blue & white color palette!
