NATURE & BOTANICAL ART JOURNAL 2010 – Hydrangea watercolor with iridescent watercolors added. Love hydrangeas in the early morning coastal fog.
Recently I was at Trader Joe’s and spotted a beautiful display of hydrangea flowers, which glory be I could buy and take home. Gotta love Trader Joe’s! So home I go with lovely pastel summer hydrangea flowers. Clear my coffee table of sea shells & art books to set up a blue & white still life. The hydrangea flowers look so wonderful in the blue & white vases. Such a harmonious color palette. This still life keeps me busy over the course of several days sketching in my Nature & Botanical Art Journal. I sketch & rearrange objects & sketch and rearrange again. Ah the luxury of being an artist and having the time to just draw & paint. Lucky me.
Here’s some photos of the hydrangeas for sale at Trader Joe’s ! I can never decide which hydrangea colors are my favorite – is it the rosy pink ones or the pale green ones or the subtle blue ones? I love them all!
Did you know that in Japan hydrangea viewing is considered best when the flowers are in the rain? Misty watercolor hydrangeas in summer rain. Like a poem isn’t it?
