DECEMBER BY-THE-SEA IN SAN DIEGO means yards decorated for Christmas with lights on palm trees & gift-wrapped surfboards, Pepper trees with red berries, Bird of Paradise flowers Magnolia tree seed pods & Star Pine trees reaching for the sky. La Jolla Farmer’s Market has wreaths made of pine, pepper berries, Eucalyptus leaves & chili peppers. I love the big baskets of just-picked tangerines. December in San Diego is when citrus is picked. King Tides of more than 7 feet cause giant waves to break in massive sea fireworks where we all Ooooo & Ahhhhh at the glory of King Neptune showing us his strength & power. Winter sunsets in San Diego are the best because we now have some clouds in our skies & the orange pumpkin suns with amber iridescent afterglow on the sands are some of my favorites. The highlight of this week though was the Osprey that flew directly in front of my car windshield & looked me right in the eye as he flew by. It’s a miracle I didn’t swerve off the bridge I was on crossing the bay. Life is lovely.
SAN DIEGO CHRISTMAS – Driving around I see magnolia pods on the trees with bright red seeds & the San Diego native Pepper trees have red berries, too. The La Jolla Farmer’s Market has a wonderful wreath made of magnolia leaves & unopened Magnolia seed pods. I see another wreath made with Chili Peppers, too. It’s Christmas in San Diego!
NOVEMBER 2014 – Focusing on making holiday gifts & cards. Created an accordion book with feathers in it, collected magnolia leaves to paint designs on, cut up lovely papers for handmade book covers & painted 35 cat cards! Ate lemon poppy seed muffins from Trader Joe’s & made peppermint tea. Making an effort to cook more these days so I made scrambled eggs with cheese & put sliced tomatoes, cucumbers & avocado on the side. A whole wheat English muffin completed my wonderful lunch. Yum. Found a wonderful vintage Japanese jewelry music box, which still has the twirling ballerina in it & for only $3.99. A real thrift shop treasure! Be good to yourself today & everyday.
