SUMMER SOLSTICE ARRIVES – Here in San Diego California Poppies open their golden petals each morning & lift their flower faces up to greet the sun. Long hot Summer days seem to be endless and our faces lift joyfully up to the sun, too. Like the poppies though that will bloom & fade Summer Solstice marks the subtle change of each day becoming shorter & shorter because no Summer lasts forever even if we wish it so.
California Poppies with their golden color remind me that they are the state flower for California. Japanese brush paintings on rice paper. Poppy photo taken in La Jolla.
MATILIJA POPPIES – After the winter rain in San Diego this year, the Matilija poppies are blooming again! These are wild flowers that are about 5 feet tall and each flower is 6-8 inches across! Art journal plein air watercolor sketchbook 2010. Photos from this week.
