Thinking of the huge wind storms hitting B.C. lately & all the damage the wind is causing with huge surf makes people want the winds to stop & the ocean to calm. This Japanese haiku seems to remind us that the winds are living entities & carry energies from long ago. – Pine Japanese brush painting with calligraphy.
DECEMBER BY-THE-SEA IN SAN DIEGO means yards decorated for Christmas with lights on palm trees & gift-wrapped surfboards, Pepper trees with red berries, Bird of Paradise flowers Magnolia tree seed pods & Star Pine trees reaching for the sky. La Jolla Farmer’s Market has wreaths made of pine, pepper berries, Eucalyptus leaves & chili peppers. I love the big baskets of just-picked tangerines. December in San Diego is when citrus is picked. King Tides of more than 7 feet cause giant waves to break in massive sea fireworks where we all Ooooo & Ahhhhh at the glory of King Neptune showing us his strength & power. Winter sunsets in San Diego are the best because we now have some clouds in our skies & the orange pumpkin suns with amber iridescent afterglow on the sands are some of my favorites. The highlight of this week though was the Osprey that flew directly in front of my car windshield & looked me right in the eye as he flew by. It’s a miracle I didn’t swerve off the bridge I was on crossing the bay. Life is lovely.
