ONCE IN A BLUE MOON – SHELL! Lovely shells on the beach during a minus tide. Photographing shells is such a wonderful way to “collect” them. I placed a Limpet shell “pearl” inside an open Mussel shell. I carry this beauty in my heart.
BEAN CLAMS – donax gouldii – recently washed up by the thousands on San Diego beaches. These tiny shells are about the size of your thumbnail and often remain hinged when they wash up. Their patterns are all different and the shell interiors are gorgeous. These tiny shells that move along the beach with the tides are sometimes referred to as “the dance of the coquina”. I just love these little shells!
Watercolor illustrations of these Bean Clams can be found in my book “A Guide to San Diego Sea Shells”.
