HANDMADE BLANK ART SKETCHBOOK JOURNALS

HANDMADE BLANK ART JOURNALS
The cover papers of these handmade blank books are beautiful handmade papers. The 14 double-sided (28 pages to paint or draw on) interior pages are 90 lb. Stonehenge paper, which is a traditional fine art paper with a smooth, flawless surface that is slightly mottled to resemble actual vellum. Use it for watercolor, printmaking, pen-and-ink, pencil, or pastel.  These books are made using a Coptic stitch in a traditional book-binding method.  The books have a wonderful “hefty” feel to them, the page paper is thick.  The cover can inspire art for the interior of the book:  Blue fish could be a sketchbook of 28 sketches/paintings of fish, the Aqua marbled book could have sketches of ocean landscapes or planets, the colorful paper umbrella book could have sketches of your own hand-painted umbrellas or fans OR your blank books could hold your poetry and dreams.  It’s up to you!

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE AN ART JOURNAL YOU CAN MAIL

Here are instructions to make your own art journal, which can be mailed!  For this sample I glued used stamps on outside of the envelope.  The red address label was created with Martha Stewart Living “rubber” stamps & the tape is Washi tape.  The sturdy brown paper was purchased at Home Depot – $10 for 185 yards!  This paper is in the paint section and is used to put on the floor during construction or painting.  The paper inside the art journal is inexpensive watercolor paper.  I draw with a Uniball pen & use watercolors to illustrate my journal.  You can glue a mini envelope on the first page & make a tiny gift card for the recipient.  If you travel, I think it would be fun to mail it home to yourself from where you were so you could have the stamps & postmark from the country you were in.  Have fun!
