PERSIMMON HARVEST IS MORE FUN WITH FRIENDS SO SHELLY CAT DECIDED TO TAKE HER MICE FRIENDS, MARV & LOUIS, WITH HER. Marv thought the persimmon slices were yummy, but Louis just wanted to wear the Persimmon calyx as a hat & run around chasing dried Persimmon leaves. Shelly Cat hung a Persimmon calyx on her collar because she liked how it looked like a flower. They all ran around in the late autumn afternoon laughing & being silly. Persimmon madness!
SAN DIEGO AUTUMN FILLS THE LA JOLLA FARMER’S MARKET WITH LOVELY ORANGE PERSIMMONS. Persimmons have a Calyx top, which can be removed & left to dry. The dried calyx look like lovely “wooden” flowers. Persimmons sliced up & put into a spinach salad with dried cranberries make a lovely Autumn salad. In Japan, persimmons are a well-known Autumn subject for paintings. The two Japanese brush paintings here are painted by me. Persimmons an ode to Autumn:
AUTUMN IS COMING TO A CLOSE SO I GLORY IN THE COLOR PALETTE OF FALL. At the La Jolla Farmer’s market there are bouquets of Marigolds, mini pumpkins on branches & a few sunflowers. The market florist has made up cornucopia baskets with autumn leaves & bunches of red chili peppers. It is persimmon season in San Diego & there are baskets of orange fruit everywhere. One vendor has cellophane bags of dried persimmons & they are so pretty. I buy myself a Pink Lady apple that is crisp & fragrant. It is apple picking season in the San Diego mountains. At the thrift store I find a number of vintage Japanese trinkets & treasures – some paper party favors, a metal butterfly pin & a wonderful celluloid Japanese charm necklace! All for under $10. Autumn fun.
