MATILIJA POPPIES – FLOWERS TO DREAM ABOUT

MATILIJA POPPIES – Like a lovely painting that haunts my dreams.  I stop & gaze at them letting the world go by not a thought in my head, but how lovely this life really is.

These poppies are blooming on a large bush in Pacific Beach.  They are covered in bees drinking up all the yellow pollen!

MATILIJA “PRICKLY” POPPY FLOWERS – WATERCOLOR ART JOURNAL

Nature & Botanical Journal 2010 - 1 WATERMARK

NATURE & BOTANICAL ART JOURNAL – Since I started making my own watercolor art journals, I create a cover.  Painting the cover usually reflects whatever subject I happen to be painting at that moment.  In this case, it was Matilija Poppies, which grow wild in San Diego.  I love that they are known as the Cowboy’s Fried Egg Poppy, too!  These poppy petals are like crinkled white paper and grow about 5 feet high in large bushes.  They are one of my favorite poppies!
