HARBOR SEAL PUP RESCUED IN 2013 GIVES BIRTH TO HER FIRST PUP!

THIS IS THE MOST HEART WARMING HARBOR SEAL STORY!  In 2013 there was a pup named “Roxy” who had a fishing line cutting into her flesh and was rescued.  The line was removed and the Harbor seal pup was treated and released.  Right away she swam back to the seal colony at Casa Beach and rejoined the group!  Now in 2018, she has showed up at the beach with her very first birth of a Harbor seal pup, which has been named “Strummer”.  It really is amazing to see the seal who was struggling now giving birth to a new member of the La Jolla Harbor seal colony.

HARBOR SEAL PUPPING SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE

Harbor seal pupping season in La Jolla is winding down. The fat little pups are only a day or two away from being weaned. The pups already weaned are dropping a bit of their weight from nursing as they now have to find fish to eat all by themselves. They pitifully cry “mooooom” to no avail. Soon their cries will fade, their hope of suckling will be just a dream & the real beginning of surviving in the Harbor seal colony will begin.

HARBOR SEALS YAWNING

THE BEACH IS FILLED WITH YAWNING HARBOR SEALS!  A seal pup about 5 months old glides in from the sea to take a nap.  The “Pup Club” snuggles together side-by-side in innocent sleep.  The Harbor seals always seem to smile & spread happiness with their heart-shaped noses!
