MALE SEA LION PROTECTING HIS FAMILY – LA JOLLA

“Hellooo Ladies!  Howz it going?” says the young male sea lion approaching the sea lion colony on the beach.  “The Beast”, head sea lion, immediately swims up & doesn’t even have to approach the young male who immediately gallops off down the beach.  No one messes with “The Beast”!

SURFING SEA LIONS

SURFING SEA LIONS –  Surfing sea lions simply bring me such great joy.  I could simply weep with happiness as I watch them frolic in the sea.

Sea Lion Pups in La Jolla, California

There are now 12 sea lion pups in La Jolla, California.  These pups are only a few weeks old!  Sea lion mothers nurse their pups for one year.  Mother’s must leave their pups alone for periods of time to go out to catch fish so they can produce breast milk to feed their pup.  These marine mammals are federally protected.  Remember to stay back 50 feet to respectfully observe them.  These are wild marine mammals and no matter how cute they look, they can bite!
